1) Do you have Livery Insurance?
Make sure you ask this... NY requires livery insurance on any vehicle that carries passengers for a fee. Their license plates should say "Livery" on them as well as their insurance ID cards should say "For Hire" on them. Companies that do not have this are called illegal operators. If they don't care about NY State Law, how can they care about you... the customer? They are putting you at risk just by accepting money and allowing you to ride in their wrongly insured vehicle. In the event of an accident you may not be covered. Another thought is if they can't afford the insurance what else can't they afford... Maintaining them?
2) How long have you been in business?
Try to secure a company that has experience and has built a reputation. Ask the photographer or videographer if they have heard of the company before you give a deposit.. They see hands on what companies show up on time and do a great job and who does not.
3) Ask for references & make sure they put the exact car # you saw on the contract. Also make sure the fleet is updated and well maintained.
